Run for a Cure

ROXBURY – Jeff Sheldon, who captured the weekly Roxbury Road Race Series season title in 2005, was the winner Thursday, Nov. 23, of the sixth annual Run For A Cure – covering the rolling 3-mile course in 17-minutes, 3 seconds.

The 26-year-old graduate of Pomperaug High School in Southbury outlasted Hans Put, 45, who placed second in 17:39 on the rolling course that started and finished near the Roxbury Congregational Church on Route 317.

Theodosia Grayson, 42, of South Kent was the first female finisher and placed 11th overall in 19:46 over the layout, which included a trip up the steep hill on Chalybes Road.

The race and a children’s mini-run held earlier on that morning netted a combined $550.

The proceeds will be equally divided between the cancer center at New Milford Hospital and the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

Each participant paid a $5 entry fee.

The event was sponsored by The Roxbury Congregational Church, the Roxbury Recreation Commission and the Roxbury Road Race Series.
