Rookies Take 2006 Series Opener

The start for today's race was modified due to a large ice patch that could not be avoided.  We started on the track to the top of the hill and out through the grass path.  By our best guess we estimate the course to be 2.35 miles.

Roxbury Rookies and two of our nation's finest (Army), David Weart and Ryan Kniery, went out strong and led the race wire to wire to finish very closely in that order.  Their only challenge was navigating an unknown course that the rest of us who show up each week take for granted.  Roxbury runners help each other out, and this time it was 3rd place finisher Mark LoSacco lending the hand with timely directions from shouting distance.  David and Ryan covered the course in 13:32.

In the ladies race another Roxbury Rookie, Eunice Bussom, led the way today with a time of 16:33.  She was followed by Jenna Hannibal and Pam Quist.

Congratulations and welcome to our rookie winners!  We hope you'll run with us again.

Missing Results

The results this week were missing some finisher places.  Web Guy Jr. did the best he good with the information he had.  If you spot an error or can fill in one of the question marks you can email him at marksl2 (at) earthlink.net.

Run For A Cure Rescheduled

The Thanksgiving Day Run For A Cure was postponed due to a snowstorm back in November.  Scott Benjamin informed us today that the race has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 11th and will take the place of the Roxbury race on that day.  Click here for more details.

Safety

Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.

It is safest if we face traffic as much as possible.  Also, it is safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.

Fossil has three rules of running:

  1. Be safe

  2. Have fun

  3. It's more fun if you run well

Be nice to the drivers.  For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury.  Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.

This week's pictures

We have a couple of new pictures this week courtesy of Mario Hasz from the 2nd Ever Roxbury Marathon.  Up top is the march to the start the morning of the marathon.  Below tht we have Web Guys Sr. and Jr. pacing each other through the first half of the marathon.  Just below that is Race Director Bob Lewis donning the Santa hat and taking part in the race.

Along side the results we have Lynnie Zuback and Sinnead Blevio smiling, with Ron Karl behaving himself in the background.  Then there's a shot of Mark Zerbe in his red vest and then one of Fast Mario Hasz and his wife Diane, the Belle of the Finish Line.

Down at the bottom, we have three women smiling after the race, Fossil meeting a dragon in Germany, and a collection of three sets of feet.

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
