Hirsch & Hannibal Strong Up Hill

The climb up Chalybes is always a tough one, but it is especially challenging the first time we tackle it each season.  John Hirsch and Jenna Hannibal had less a problem with it than everyone else and as a result they took this week's race.

Triathelete John Hirsch has been training in Spain on the hills and was up for today's challenge.  He followed close behind Mark LoSacco for the first mile or so of the race.  When they got to the hill John's 2 hour cycle climbs in Spain served him well.  Mark bombed and never recovered and watched John cross the line 6 seconds or so in front of him with a time of 14:38.  It was all Mark could do to hold off a charging Shadow Merrick with Ken in tow.  Shadow let Ken cross the line first.

In the ladies race Jenna Hannibal bettered her second place finish of last week and crossed the line first today with a time of 17:27.  She was followed by Pam Quist and Terri Lee.

Run For A Cure Rescheduled

The Thanksgiving Day Run For A Cure was postponed due to a snowstorm back in November.  Scott Benjamin informed us today that the race has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 11th and will take the place of the Roxbury race on that day.  Click here for more details.

Safety

Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.

It is safest if we face traffic as much as possible.  Also, it is safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.

Fossil has three rules of running:

  1. Be safe

  2. Have fun

  3. It's more fun if you run well

Be nice to the drivers.  For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury.  Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.

This week's pictures

The pictures this week are from the 2nd Ever Roxbury Marathon.  Up top we have Web Guys Sr. and Jr. pacing each other through the first half of the marathon.  Just below that is Roxbury regular Mo van Moffaert finishing her leg of the marathon relay.

Along side the results we have marathon winner Ken Merrick.  Then there's a shot of Chris Childs, Dan Lynch, Mike Zuback and Mario Hasz.  Last up is a shot of Mike Zuback and Mario Hasz.  Mario has completed both Roxbury marathons.

On the bottom is a nice shot of Corrine, Prasama, and Christina taken during warmer times.

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
