3.7 miles - Down Chalybes, up Ranney March 25, 2006 8:30 am. 38 degrees |

Last week's winner Jeff Sheldon continued his winning streak this week against a competitive field, while Pam Quist bagged her first win of the season against last week's winner Jenna Hannibal.
The course was tough and the competition up front was hotter than usual. A group of 5 went out fast, with Sheldon and Steve Palmer leading the field. Steve battled Jeff the entire way, while Ken Merrick slowly moved his way up through the field. By the the turn onto West Apple Lane Ken was closing in on the leaders. At the base of the first of the two finish hills Jeff started his kick and was able to hold off Steve and Ken who finished 2nd and 3rd. All three were well under 6 minute pace, with Jeff covering the course in 21:06 (5:42 pace).
Meanwhile Pam Quist was making surges of her own. Last week's course was the same distance though less challenging. Pam must like running uphill because she knocked about 30 seconds off her time of last week to best 2nd place finisher Jenna Hannibal by a little over a minute. Pam crossed the line in 25:46 (6:58 pace). Congratulations to Pam on her first Roxbury win of the season.
Help Web Guy Jr. Get Your Times Right
We were 2 clicks short on the stop watch this week which makes getting the right times lined up with the right names a challenge for Web Guy Jr.. He did his best based on those of you who wrote down your times next to your names after the finish. If you finished between 17th and 36th place and you know your time, please email it to marksl2(at)earthlink.net.
Safety
Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.
It is safest if we face traffic as much as possible. Also, it is safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's more fun if you run well
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
This week's pictures
At the top, we have a nice picture of Pam Quist taken during the 2001 season. To the right, here, is a picture from the April 16, 2005 race, at the start on a nice Spring morning. Up front left to right are Lou Denaro, Mark Andrejczyk, and Jeff Sheldong.
Along the side of the results, we have Mo van Moffaert about to get her stick from Ken Merrick. Then there's a shot of two camera-shy runners, hiding where they think we won't take their pictures. Below that is a picture of physical therapist Mike Candito, who now lives in Massachusetts. The Fossil credits Mike with saving his Achilles tendon, and thus helping end the Fossil's plague of injuries. Thanks, Mike.
Along the bottom is another Winter start from 1998. How many of the people can you identify?
The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
