4.8 miles - Judd's Bridge Rd. June 3, 2006 8:30 am. cool, rainy |
|
Race #16 of the 2006 Roxbury season threatened to be a total
washout. Despite the risk becoming waterlogged, some 40 diehards showed up
to race the 4.8 mile Judd's Bridge R
d.
out-and-back course. Those who finished fast enough managed to beat out
the worst of the downpour. The rest were treated to a heavy but cooling
downpour.
Jeff Sheldon was one of those that ran fast enough to avoid the rain. He also ran fast enough to avoid all the other runners. Jeff led wire to wire and finished nearly a full 2 minutes over closest rival Ken Merrick. Jeff's time of 27:15 is a 5:41 pace.
Pam Quist took a week off and let someone else win. Nora Hulton was on hand to take this week's honors as she covered the course in 37:52. Mo van Moffaert took second place among the ladies. This was Nora's first win of the 2006 season.
Safety
Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.
It is safest if we face traffic as much as safe and possible. (on the other hand, avoid the inside of sharp, blind curves.) Also, it is much safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's sometimes more fun if you win. Set goals you can realistically achieve.
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
Vermont City Marathon Kudos
Congratulations to Tom McNulty for chopping almost a full hour off his marathon PR last week at the Vermont City Marathon! Congratulations also go out to occasional Roxbury runner Sameh Hassan who made Vermont City his first marathon and completed it in under 5 hours. Their race results are below.

This week's pictures
First up is an old photo of Tom McNulty. His breakthrough effort at Vermont deserves a top of page photo!

Then we have Brian Vanderheiden, and Mark Andrejczyk warming up on the track. That one is followed by a shot of Chris Deming who moved up out of the fog to the 5th spot in the point standings this week.
Then we have Kurt Thoennessen and Bob Saterlee working together to push over the wooden fence posts.
Along the side of the results, is a shot of two Mark's one's a LoSacco and the other's a Zerbe.
