Mark LoSacco had the fastest time for the second week in a row, and further extended his lead in the Prestigious Roxbury Points Race. WebGuyJr went out fast and had an early lead on a pack of six, including David and Craig Hunt. When we got close to the end of the race and it was time for the Hunt Boys to try to kick to catch the leader, it was too late. WebGuyJr held on to win by 19 seconds.
The women's race had exactly the same winning margin. Lynn Zuback was the fastest woman, edging Nora Hulton by just 19 seconds as well.
The day dawned raining, and that may have deterred some of our usual runners. Though the rain stopped for the race itself, it rained before and after the race, and we had a field of only 32 runners for the main race. Summer is officially here, though, and when it's not hot, it's probably raining. Enjoy it.
Team races
This week's race was officially "The Team Race." Normally we run with three-person teams, but this year we decided to go with two. Teams were made up at the starting line, and winners determined by total time. So surprise, Craig and David Hunt finished second and third overall, and won as a team.

Abe to Africa
We won't have Mike Abraham to kick around for a while. The New Milford High School social studies teacher teaches world cultures so well because he's been so many of the places he teaches about. He's been to China several times, and now he's off to Africa for about a month. Enjoy the trip, Abe, and bee careful.
Fossil's thanks
The Fossil again thanks all the folks at Roxbury who send to many good wishes for his mother, who suffered a stroke in April. She has recovered well, and is officially allowed to drive again. The big news, though, is that she and Fossil's father are moving to Newtown, just four houses up the street from Fossil himself.
Roxbury Handicap
It took nearly the whole week to get the
results of last week's Roxbury Handicap straightened
out. Make sure you check the results.
It's Rapid Lynn Zuback's favorite race, and it's probably Larry Deming's
favorite now, too.
Safety
Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.
It is safest if we face traffic as much as safe and possible. (on the other hand, avoid the inside of sharp, blind curves.) Also, it is much safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's sometimes more fun if you win. Set goals you can realistically achieve.
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
This week's pictures
Up top, we have Fossil about to let Mario Hasz start in last week's handicap race. This photo, and the next two as well, were taken by Ron Karl. Thanks again, Ron.
The next stop is Katie Neils outkicking Eric Winkelstern at the handicap. Then Steve Schoeller finishing ahead of a pack of five tiny specks. You can try to guess who they might be.
That one is followed by a shot of
Chris Deming running in the fog a few weeks
ago. Chris missed the race this week.
Then we have Kurt Thoennessen and Bob Satterlee working together to straighten the wooden fence posts. In the background, you can see injured Steve Schoeller on his crutches. Steve is better now.
Along the side of the results, is a shot of two Mark's one's a LoSacco and the other's a Zerbe.
Way at the bottom, notice the Dragon is back.
