4.8 miles - Judd's Bridge Rd. July 22, 2006 8:30 am. overcast and humid |
|
If last week was an exceptionally strong
field for this season at Roxbury, today's
race was off the charts. The first 8 runners covered the 4.8 mile out and
back Judd's Bridge Rd. course in 6:11 pace or faster. Season rookie
Michael Hall blasted off the starting line and didn't let up until he crossed
the line 25 minutes later. That's a speedy 5:13 pace and was fast enough
to best second place finisher (and last week's winner) Graham Keggi by over 2
minutes. Pat Dennen and Jeff Sheldon rounded out the top 4 finishers and
all averaged better than 6 minute pace.
Pam Quist picked up her 12th win of the season, crossing the line in 34:29, ahead of 2nd place finisher Terri Lee. Pam's got more wins this season than anyone. The next closest is Jeff Sheldon with 7.
Leadville Marathon
Think a Marathon is a tough race? Try it at 13,000 feet, across the beautiful and glorious Mosquito Pass. That's what Carl Hunt and Walt Schuttler did 3 weeks ago. The course was so tough that both took over 7 hours, and both say it was the most difficult thing they have ever done.
As witnessed by the beautiful photos they had on hand today, it was the most beautiful scenery they have ever seen, and their enthusiasm for the experience gives you goose bumps. Congratulations Carl and Walt.
Safety
Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.
It is safest if we face traffic as much
as safe and possible. (on the other hand, avoid the inside of sharp, blind
curves.) Also, it is much safer if we are all
on the same side of the road,
instead of making traffic drive between runners.
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's sometimes more fun if you win. Set goals you can realistically achieve.
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
This week's pictures
Up top, we have a picture of
the one and only Web Guy Sr., who missed
today's race again. Web Guy Jr. is happy to pick up the slack.
Then we have the crowd at the starting line applauding Walt Schuttler and Carl Hunt for their extraordinary run at the Leadville Marathon.
Then we have three three Demings, Chris, his brother Larry, and Larry's daughter Amanda. Those that hung around after the race last week were treated to an impromptu concert by Larry. He plays quite a fiddle.
Along the side of the results we have a couple of people trying to straighten the posts in the parking lot. Next is a shot of two Mark's one's a LoSacco and the other's a Zerbe.
Third in that column are the three Neils ladies, Lili, April and Katie.
Way at the bottom, notice the Dragon is back.
