5.0 miles - Squire Road reverse October 7, 2006 8:30 am. - 50 degrees, partly cloudy, then sun |
|

Isn't that a tough course? All those hills? Especially that climb up South Street. It was a glorious day, though, a wonderful morning to be running in Roxbury
The hills didn't bother Hans Put at all. Chris Deming took an easy lead, but Hans hauled him back by the mile mark and cruised away for a win by a margin of almost two minutes. Chris Deming was second, followed by Scott Holmes.
Among the women, Ellen McCurtin finished 10th overall, 50 seconds and six places ahead of Pam Quist. It was Ellen's second win in a row.
Roxbury Marathon !
RoxburyRaces.com's first ever Video Clip - Mario going past Diane at the water stop - 20 seconds, 3 meg. Awesome.
ROXBURY – Mike Ruospo, 42, of Stratford captured the Roxbury Marathon Saturday, Sept. 30, covering the rolling 26.2-mile course in 3-hours, 35-minutes, 45-seconds.
Ruospo, who has been competing in the weekly Roxbury Road Race Series the last three years, has run the Boston Marathon 10 times and the New York City Marathon twice.
David Redline a postal worker from Prospect placed second
with
a clocking of 3:38.14. Mario Hasz of Cromwell was the other finisher, being
timed in 4:35.06.
Ruospo will receive a plaque for his victory at the weekly Roxbury race on Oct. 7.
This was the third time that the Roxbury series has held a marathon. The previous two were in December 2004 and December 2005.
Another 26.2-mile jaunt will be held Sautrday, Dec. 9, at 8:30 a.m. and starting and finishing at the Everett Hurlbut Community Park. The $5 entry fee can be paid that day from 7:15 to 8:20 a.m. at the community park.
Safety
Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.
It is safest if we face traffic as much as safe and possible. (on the other hand, avoid the inside of sharp, blind curves.) Also, it is much safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's sometimes fun to beat people. Set goals you can realistically achieve.
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
This week's pictures
Up top, we have Mike Torpedo Ruospo crossing the finish line to win the Roxbury Marathon. Then we have David Redline and Dan Lynch cruising through a water stop. Wasn't it a beautiful day?
Below that, we have asters blooming along a rock wall, just to remind us how lucky we are to be able to run in a beautiful place like Roxbury almost every Saturday.
Then, in second place, David Redline crossing the finish line.
A little below is "Super" Mario Hasz, motoring past the rec area.
Down the side we have people trying to straighten the posts in the parking lot. Then there are two Marks, Zerbe and LoSacco. After that, we have the Fossil checking his time on a watch that matches his t-shirt, and then our new Shepaug Trail sign at the starting line. Way at the bottom, notice the Dragon is back.
Most new pictures today are by Ron Karl. Others are by Amanda and Collin's dad. Thanks, Larry.
