John LaRosa, 25, scored his third consecutive victory in the Roxbury
Road Race Series
Saturday, Mar. 24, by outrunning a competitive field over a revised 3.6-mile
course that included trips both down and up challenging hills.
He was clocked in 21-minutes, 27-seconds on the course, which had to be slightly altered due to a patch of ice at the foot of the hill near the intersection of West Apple Lane and Rocky Mountain Road. The series directors eliminated the first one-tenth of a mile of the 3.7-mile layout, which the series has been running since 1991.
LaRosa quickly took the lead from the starting line on Rocky Mountain Road and stayed in front through the long climb down Chalybes Road and up the long hill on Ranny Hill Road, and through the remainder of the rolling course.
Pam Quist, 43, of the New Preston section of Washington was the female winner and placed eighth overall in 24:50. It was the third victory of the season for Quist, who captured the women’s title in the weekly series last year.
The series will resume Saturday, Mar. 31, at 8:30 a.m. with a 3.95-mile course that will include a trip through part of South Street and along a jeep trail located in the final mile.
There will be no entry fee.
Safety
Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.
It is safest if we face traffic as much as possible. Also, it is safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's more fun if you run well
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
