Hunt and Hannibal Repeat

In stark contrast to last week's sunny and bright skies, this week's installment of the Roxbury road race series brought cool temperatures and overcast grey.  But although the conditions were different, the outcome remained the same, with last week's winners Jenna Hanibal and David Hunt running to repeat victories.

David's closest rival this week was birthday boy (it said so on the sign-in sheet) John Hirsch who kept pace for the first two miles.  After that the course topography changes decidedly for the worst and David managed to pull away on the hills leading to the wet muddy jeep trail section.  David covered the 3.95 mile course in 23:20, with John finishing about 36 seconds later.

Jenna Hannibal and Eunice Bussom finished 1-2 last week and repeated again this week.  Jenna was about a minute and a half faster this week, crossing the line in 26:06.

There were issues with the timing this week, so results are very unofficial, though the places should all be correct.  Web Guy Jr. did the best he could to marry the times folks wrote down off their watches with what was reported from the watch.

Recent birthdays

Our records* suggest that a few people have celebrated birthdays recently.  Belated, and perhaps badly mis-timed birthday greetings go out to John Hirsch.

    * We keep track of people's ages.  When the age you put on the sign-up sheet goes up, we guess that you've had a birthday.

  Safety

Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.

It is safest if we face traffic as much as possible.  Also, it is safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.

Fossil has three rules of running:

  1. Be safe

  2. Have fun

  3. It's more fun if you run well

Be nice to the drivers.  For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury.  Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.

This week's pictures

Up top on the right we have Jenna Hannibal in weather just a tad colder than today's conditions.

Below that we have a crowd scene from the start, featuring Lou Denaro in the foreground, with a lot of people you might recognize in the background.

Along side the results we have  Lynnie Zuback and Sinnead Blevio smiling, with Ron Karl behaving himself in the background. Where's Sinnead been this year? Then there's a shot of Mark Zerbe in his red vest.  Then we have brightly colored Brian Vanderheiden and Mark LoSacco.  Near the bottom of the column, a shot of Fast Mario Hasz and his wife Diane, the Belle of the Finish Line.

Down at the bottom, we have three women smiling after the race, Fossil meeting a dragon in Germany, and a collection of three sets of feet.
