Levys Return - Andrew and Adam 1-2
Hannibal Romps among Women
What a glorious morning! Skies
were bright, the flowers were in bloom and the course was shady.
Temperatures were on the cool side, but they warmed up quickly. The Levys
are back. Best of all, there was a five mile race in Roxbury.
Adam and Andrew Levy are back from college. They brought their parents, Ross and Janet, but their sister Alana decided to sleep late. They started the race easily, maybe 20th place, but once the crowd thinned out a bit, they moved to join Jeff Sheldon at the front. At about two miles, Andrew pulled away to win by about thirty seconds over Adam and Jeff.
Among the women, Jenna Hannibal won her ninth race of the season, with a wide margin over Laura Hermann and Lynn Zuback.
Recent birthdays
Our records* suggest that a few people have celebrated birthdays since the last time they ran Roxbury. They include Steve Brown, Laura Hermann, Nylabone Hiser and Ron Karl.
* We keep track of people's ages. When the age you put on the sign-up sheet goes up, we guess that you've had a birthday. If you haven't run for a few weeks (or months), our birthday wishes may be kind of late.
People
Laura and George Hermann ran their last Roxbury race as "locals" this week. They are moving to Suffield, and then this fall Laura is going to the University of Vermont to study nursing. We'll miss them both, and wish them well.
Mario Hasz has been missing for a few weeks, and is recovering from some eye ailments. We wish him a speedy recovery and a swift return to Roxbury.
Tommy Vanderheiden made his Roxbury debut this week, cruising his way to the finish line just one second ahead of his daddy, Brian.
Safety
Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.
It is safest if we face traffic as much as possible. Also, it is safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners. (You know who you are.)
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's more fun if you run well
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
This week's pictures
Up top on the right we have this week's top two finishers, Andrew and Adam Levy, back in the area after their school year. Can you tell which is which?
Then we have a farewell picture of George and Laura Hermann. They're moving away and we'll miss them.
Below that we have a crowd scene from the start, featuring Lou Denaro in the foreground, with a lot of people you might recognize in the background.
Along side the results we have Lynnie Zuback and Sinnead Blevio smiling, with Ron Karl behaving himself in the background. Where's Sinnead been this year? Then there's a shot of Mark Zerbe in his red vest. Then we have brightly colored Brian Vanderheiden and Mark LoSacco. Near the bottom of the column, a shot of Fast Mario Hasz and his wife Diane, the Belle of the Finish Line.
Down at the bottom, we have three women smiling after the race, Fossil meeting a dragon in Germany, and a collection of three sets of feet.
The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
