2007 Roxbury Race #22

3.52 miles - Down Hemlock

July 21, 2007

8:30 am. 70 degrees, sunny

Levys, Adam and Andrew 1-2

Theresa Krebs first woman

Joe Mendes and Steve Haas started Saturday's 3.52 mile Roxbury Road Race like they were shot from guns, while college stars Adam and Andrew Levy held back with the patience of sharks.  When Joe's and Steve's legs fell off, Adam and Andrew moved smoothly into the lead to finish virtually tied for the win, about 50 seconds ahead of Mark LoSacco.  The Hunt brothers, David and Craig, also ran together and patiently, to finish two seconds apart in 4th and 5th place.  Joe and Steve faded to 9th and 10th.

Among the women, Theresa Krebs edged Heather Klein by just five seconds to finish 19th and 20th respectively, about a minute ahead of rookie Kirstin Sutcliffe.

People

Tough-as-Nails Corinne Bellemare continues her recovery from heart ailments and that part is going quite well, but now she's suffering a case of Lyme disease.  It doesn't stop her from doing what she can at Roxbury, as evidenced by the results below.

Nora Hulton is banged up, too, after a swift encounter involving her bicycle and someone else's car.  The driver didn't look.  The cyclist has a broken collarbone, but she's a superstar at physical therapy and a model of good posture.

We're anxiously awaiting news from Mario Hasz, battling some eye problems.  We wish him the best and we miss him and his lovely wife Dianne, the Belle of the Finish Line.

Steve Haas has been on vacation in Rhode Island this week, but since his lead in the Prestigious Roxbury Points Race is so precarious, he's traveled back last week and this to run in the races.  He's holding on to his lead, but all that softball and beach volleyball, not to mention all the driving, is bad for his running muscles, and even the Fossil beat him both weeks.

Safety

Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.

It is safest if we face traffic as much as possible.  Also, it is safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.

Fossil has three rules of running:

  1. Be safe

  2. Have fun

  3. It's more fun if you run well

Be nice to the drivers.  For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury.  Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.

This week's pictures

Up top we have  week's one-two finishers, Adam and Andrew Levy.  Below that we have a crowd scene from the start the Mid-Summer Championship featuring Wallie Jahn in the foreground, with a lot of people you might recognize in the background.

Along side the results we have Lynnie Zuback and Sinnead Blevio smiling, with Ron Karl behaving himself in the background. Where's Sinnead been this year? Then there's a shot of Mark Zerbe in his red vest.  Then we have brightly colored Brian Vanderheiden and Mark LoSacco.  Near the bottom of the column, a shot of Fast Mario Hasz and his wife Diane, the Belle of the Finish Line.

Down at the bottom, we have three women smiling after the race, Fossil meeting a dragon in Germany, and a collection of three sets of feet.

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
