Sheldon scampers to another win
Schafer edges Hannibal
The
Race of the Week was between Mary Schafer and Jenna Hannibal. Jenna led
for much of the 3.95 mile course, down South Street and back up the brutal
Jeep Trail, but in the last mile, Mary edged into the lead and went on to win
by 10 seconds.
Among the men, Jeff Sheldon ran away with it, winning by just over a minute. It was closer after that, as sixth place was closer to second place than second was to first. (got that? 62 seconds separated first from second, but only 54 seconds separated second from sixth.)
People
Mario Hasz is back among us, a bit out of shape from his battle with a cancer on his eye. He picked a hot day to come back, but at least he brought along his lovely wife Dianne, the Belle of the Finish Line. Welcome back.
They weren't the only ones back after missing a spell. The Fossil was gone for more than a month, visiting Montreal, San Jose and most of Germany. In San Jose he got to do a book signing for one of his new books. If you decide to buy one, get the one How Euler Did It. It's starting to turn up cheap on eBay.
All of the Levy kids have gone back to school now, Adam, Andrew and Alana, so the Bevy of Levys is down to just Ross and Janet.
Safety
Safety is important to us, as we don't run on closed roads and generally like each other.
It is safest if we face traffic as much as possible. Also, it is safer if we are all on the same side of the road, instead of making traffic drive between runners.
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's more fun if you run well
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
This week's pictures
Up top we have Mark LoSacco changing his shoes.
Then we have this week's 1-2 finishers among the women, still friends after the race. Jenna Hannibal is on the left and Mary Schafer is on the right.
Below that we have a crowd scene from this morning's foggy start, featuring winner Jeff Sheldon and camera-hog Mark LoSacco in the front row, as well as a number of others you should recognize.
Along side the results we have Brian Vanderheiden and Torpedo Ruospo battling the elements at Boston this year. Then there's a shot of Mark Zerbe in his red vest. Then we have brightly colored Brian Vanderheiden and Mark LoSacco. Near the bottom of the column, a shot of Fast Mario Hasz and his wife Diane, the Belle of the Finish Line.
Down at the bottom, we have Fossil meeting a dragon in Germany. He was back in Germany recently, and the dragon is still there.
The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com
