Some
of you have learned the trick that you can watch the progress as I build the web
page by linking through last week's race and using the "next week"
button. For you, I've already posted a draft of the results.
Check back later, though, because there might be some phoggy fotographs.
Note to WebGuyJr: I'll be gone next week. Trip to California. Let Scott know if you can do the page.
It was a foggy Saturday morning. Unlike other foggy mornings, the sun didn't shine through and make it sunny and humid. It didn't turn to rain, either. It just gradually turned into a cool, cloudy day. It was humid, but not hot, so it was a fine day for a run.
The course was only 3.52 miles, a break after several longer races. Next week will be even shorter, only 2.4 miles.
The leaders quickly disappeared into the fog, spread out, and disappeared from each other, too. More than a minute separated first place Jeff Sheldon from second place Chris Deming. Scott Bussom and last week's winner Joe Mendes were almost a minute behind Chris, but they stuck together and were only six seconds apart.
Eunice Bussom was the first woman, 14th overall, a minute and a half ahead of Lynn Zuback, 23rd overall.
Traffic
People
Mario Hasz is back under nine minutes a mile, after his health problems this summer. He was a good deal faster last spring before he got sick, but he's being patient about it, and has recovered about half of his speed. Keep it up, and be patient. Welcome back, Mario.
Safety
Traffic was kind of bad this week. We may have made it a little worse by not getting out of the way very well. It works best if we all go to the same side, so that the cars can go around us instead of between us.
Always choose a safe line.
Try to stay on the same side of the road, usually facing traffic.
In general, follow the people in front of you. You can see them better than they can see you.
Call traffic warnings to other runners. "Car up!" or "Car back!" Even if it's a truck.
Fossil has three rules of running:
Be safe
Have fun
It's more fun if you run well
Be nice to the drivers. For the most part, they like us, and they are proud to have us running in Roxbury. Smile, and, if you wave, be sure you use all five fingers.
This week's pictures
Up top we have Mark LoSacco changing his shoes.
Then we have recent 1-2 finishers among the women, still friends after the race. Jenna Hannibal is on the left and Mary Schafer is on the right. Both of them missed the race this week.
Below that we have a crowd scene from last week's foggy start, featuring winner Jeff Sheldon and camera-hog Mark LoSacco in the front row, as well as a number of others you should recognize.
Along side the results we have Brian Vanderheiden and Torpedo Ruospo battling the elements at Boston this year. Then there's a shot of Mark Zerbe in his red vest. Then we have brightly colored Brian Vanderheiden and Mark LoSacco. Near the bottom of the column, a shot of Fast Mario Hasz and his wife Diane, the Belle of the Finish Line.
Down at the bottom, we have Fossil meeting a dragon in Germany. He was back in Germany recently, and the dragon is still there.
