Is it
an old-fashioned and outmoded means of communication, rapidly being
submerged in the tide of electronic multimedia (like this home page?)
Does it reach only comparatively small audiences at a showing, grossing
pitifully small box office returns as compared with Star Wars or Seinfeld?
Does it cater only to an élite audience, ignoring
mass sensibilities?
Does it need to be subsidized privately, and sometimes, with your
tax $$ to survive?
Is it centered in New York City - physically, artistically, emotionally,
politically, exporting liberal minority views to the vast
hinterland beyond the Hudson?
Is it limping on its last legs, a fabulous but ailing invalid?
If you answered in the affirmative to all of the above, youd
be in the majority - at least the majority of us who never go to the
theatre. By the way, how many times have you seen a live theatrical
performance?
Check one:
So why bother to study theatre at all?
Check as many as you like.
