SCSU Help Desk:
Hi, I am Dr. Rob Rennie, Vice President, Technology & Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Southern. I have been working with our talented staff to create a next generation technology environment and prepare us for continued success as we move to an ever more technologically dependent future.
Over the past 2 ½ years we have accomplished a tremendous amount of work. This has included the complete replacement of the university networks and telephone systems, complete replacement of the residence life data and entertainment networks, installation of a new wireless network covering the entire campus (including the introduction of eduroam), expanded bandwidth Internet connection and dedicated Internet2, and the implementation of a completely new computer and data security architecture.
Additionally, we have replaced/remodeled/upgraded the technology in 45 classrooms, upgraded the learning management system (Blackboard Learn 9), implemented single sign-on and federated ID-account management, gone live with a new CRM to aid in the recruitment of students, and expanded our Help Desk service hours for 24x7 support.
My goal as CIO is to provide the best possible technology environment for students, staff, and faculty. There are challenges in resources: money, time, and staff but we continue to make progress. Upcoming improvements include a complete redesign and replacement of the university website, creation of a staff and student portal, increased availability of mobile apps, additional classroom and lab upgrades, and continually more responsive help resources. We have just begun the replacement of all our major university back-end administrative systems. This long-term project will result in improved processes, administrative efficiencies, an improved user experience, better information for decision making, and a more sustainable cost model. There is a lot of work to do and we are excited to take on the challenges before us.
If you have any questions, concerns, or want to share your views, please feel free to reach out to us through the Help Desk, we really need your input. Happy computing.
