How to Upload Your Vaccination Card
- Log into the Medicat Health Portal.
- Scroll to “To Do List” and click “Uploads.”
- Choose “Document to Be Uploaded.” Select “COVID-19 Vaccine Record.”
- Click "Select File."
- Click "Upload."
Submit your vaccine card by the following dates and you will be automatically entered to win a gift card to the bookstore. Deadlines/drawing dates are:
- July 9: two $500 gift cards
- July 23: four $250 gift cards
- August 6: six $100 gift cards
SCSU is requiring that all students are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by August 9, 2021, to participate in the fall 2021 semester (per CSCU Board of Regents Policy).
Getting vaccinated protects your health, as well as those around you, especially those who are medically compromised and can’t receive the vaccination. Universal vaccinations also will allow the university to return to pre-COVID experiences and eliminate many of the COVID restrictions we’ve had to implement over the last year. We must have a high percentage of our campus vaccinated to allow us to minimize mitigation initiatives (e.g., masking, distancing, quarantining). A dynamic and vibrant campus requires all members of our campus community to feel like they can return safely with as minimal exposure to COVID as possible. Vaccinations are the most effective approach to managing the spread of COVID-19, and especially the new variants that are emerging.
Students who are granted exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccine will be required to continue wearing masks and practicing physical distancing and participate in weekly testing. They may be restricted from attending some in-person events.
Students who wish to enroll in Fall 2021 must either be vaccinated or be granted an exemption from vaccination. Those who do not obtain an exemption, and fail to meet the vaccination requirement by the determined deadline, will not be permitted on campus.
World Health Organization approved vaccines will be accepted. They are as follows:

Vaccination is required regardless of previous illness or test results. The University will not accept antibody testing in lieu of proof of vaccination because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates: 1.) Antibodies from previous COVID-19 infections may not be as long lasting as those from vaccination; 2.) Antibody testing is not sufficiently reliable to ensure that the presences of antibodies will confer immunity from future infections; and 3.) The CDC recommends vaccination to those who were previously infected.
Students with fully remote schedules who will not be accessing campus for any reason, and who are not vaccinated or do not wish to submit their vaccination record, are required to complete the exemption form and articulate this as part of their narrative. Students who later decide they would like to come to campus will be required to submit their vaccine record or receive a vaccination exemption before they are permitted to access University premises.
While there may be some remote and online options, the University is planning to return to pre-pandemic operations, and most classes will be offered only in-person. Students interested in a fully online schedule should contact Academic Advising to see what might be available.
Southern is returning to wearing masks starting August 2 to support a healthy and safe campus as everyone returns to work and learn. We are hopeful that once we are a highly vaccinated campus we will be able to re-evaluate the mask mandate for those who are vaccinated. For now, everyone, including those fully vaccinated, must be masked indoors in any common/public spaces. Masks are not required outdoors.

Yes. New and returning students are expected to receive all required immunizations, including a COVID-19 vaccine, prior to arriving on campus. Students must submit proof of having received a COVID-19 vaccine before August 9, 2021.
Yes, Southern is requiring all undergraduate and graduate students to receive and provide proof of having received, a COVID-19 vaccine.
- Medical Exception requests will be considered and warrant an exemption based on supporting documentation.
- Non-Medical Exceptions will be considered in extenuating circumstances. Supporting documentation will be needed. Students who wish to request a nonmedical exemption must do so by filling out the appropriate form.
