The following resources have been developed for students as they prepare to meet with their Interdisciplinary (or General) Studies academic advisor.
Preparing for your Advisement Appointment
Prior to meeting with your academic advisor, it is important to review your Degree Evaluation and map out the courses that you plan to take in the upcoming semester(s), using the online course schedule (and the university catalog).
To schedule an appointment with your assigned advisor, you must first complete the Course Planning Worksheet that your advisor emailed to you. Please refer to your Southern email to complete this online form. Once you've completed your worksheet, your advisor will send you an email invitation to schedule a one-on-one advisement appointment (that will be held online or via phone).
Accessing Your Online Advisement Appointment
The day before your scheduled appointment you will receive an appointment reminder email that will contain instructions for accessing your online appointment (via WebEx, which you can access via your mobile device, tablet, laptop or desktop computer). A few minutes prior to your appointment start time, simply click on the link that is provided in your email reminder (note that you may be asked to download an application in order to connect to WebEx, if you haven't use the application before). You will have the option of sharing video (not required) or calling into the appointment via telephone. If you have technical difficulties with the application, please contact Southern's IT HelpDesk at email@example.com or 203-392-5123.
