For candidates who already have a master’s degree, the Sixth Year Professional Diploma leads to eligibility for certification as a reading specialist and certification as a reading and language arts consultant (102 & 097/grades K-12). The reading and language arts consultant (097) is an administrative endorsement in Connecticut. Sixth Year candidates develop all of the same competencies, knowledge, and skills as M.S. candidates, but then go on to take additional course work in school literacy leadership, coaching, and program development. There are 13 courses/39 credits in this program. The Graduate Reading Program is accredited by the International Literacy Association and the International Dyslexia Association.
