The Graduate Certificate in School Library Media – Initial Teacher Certification offers the opportunity to gain certification as a K-12 teacher in Connecticut. This program welcomes both mid-career professionals seeking a career change and recent graduates with an interest in teaching and school libraries. As the only program of its kind in Connecticut, with nationally recognized faculty and a statewide network of professional support, we welcome inquiries and interest from potential students with all types of undergraduate degrees and professional backgrounds.
Currently school library media specialists are a designated shortage area in Connecticut, and employment opportunities are available in both high needs, urban and suburban districts. The teacher certification may be combined with dual enrollment in the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program. Please contact the school library media graduate coordinator for further information.
