Working part time while attending college has many benefits, including learning the
expectations of the workplace, improving your time management skills, and developing
other abilities necessary for success after you graduate. Besides providing online
job listings through JOBSs and assisting with your part-time job search, the Center
for Career Services coordinates the University Student Worker program.
On-Campus Student Employment
To qualify as a University Student Worker, students must be accepted to the university
as matriculated and must be enrolled in courses. To apply for on-campus jobs, students
should log onto JOBSs using their MySCSU login information. Once the profile is completed, the student
will be able to apply directly to departments looking for student help.
Part-Time Off-Campus Jobs
Students should update their profile and submit a résumé in JOBsS to apply for part-time positions with employers looking to recruit at Southern. In
addition to JOBSs, some position listings are maintained in the Career Services Job
bank located in the Center's Resource Library. Juniors and seniors looking for career-related
positions are encouraged to consider the co-op program.
The Center for Career Services recommends students make an appointment with a career
counselor to ensure that their résumés and credentials are in order before applying
for positions using JOBSs. Although an appointment is not always required, student
résumés must be approved before they can be forwarded to employers through JOBSs.
