Publications and experience

Assistant Professor Gil has worked as a news reporter for the Hartford Courant, the Waterbury Republican American, and the Valley Independent Sentinel, covering various municipal governments, breaking news and education. She is the treasurer of the Connecticut Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists,  having previously served as the group's president and immediate past president. She also serves as the chair for the group's annual contest. She also serves on the national Digital Media Committee for the Society of Professional Journalists and regularly writes about multimedia journalism for the group's blog and column in Quill, a national industry magazine. She is a member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. She was a member of the Connecticut General Assembly's special task force to review privacy and Freedom of Information in the wake of the Newtown shooting. In her free time, she continues to freelance for a variety of online media outlets in the state.
