The Philosophy Department offers a world-renowned faculty and a wide variety of classes. Students can major in philosophy and receive a Bachelor of Arts degree, or they can pursue a minor in philosophy or religious studies.  Additionally, we offer specialized courses in applied philosophy.  Courses such as Computer Ethics, Bio-Medical Ethics, Business Ethics, Philosophy of Education, and Moral Problems in the Law may also satisfy course requirements in other majors.

Our faculty members take part in many exciting programs on Southern's campus -- Honors College, interdisciplinary courses, and Women's Studies are a few examples of the extra-curricular programs offered. In addition to these programs, the Philosophy Department hosts the Metaphilosophy Journal and the Research Center on Computing & Society.

Students who study philosophy learn to think with autonomy and become problem solvers.
