Financial Literacy and Advising
Welcome to Student Financial Literacy and Advising!
Southern Connecticut State University has made financial literacy and advising a priority to help students and families by promoting the financial planning process. I work collaboratively with various cross-divisional staffs to design, implement, and assess financial literacy programs and financial planning services for prospective and current students. Through advising, outreach and on-campus programming, I raise awareness about financial literacy, student aid programs, scholarships, career paths, and long-term financial obligations.
I will create individual financial plans aligned with student academic plans culminating in timely degree completion. Affordability was a major component of President Papazian's Student Success Task Force and outcomes from the report emphasize the need for support with the cost of higher education. These efforts will increase student retention and graduation rates as each student will be empowered with an immediate and future plan to pay for college. Students will be better prepared to make informed decisions regarding their short- and long-term financial obligations.
A goal is to embed financial knowledge and responsibility by providing personalized strategies for lifetime financial success. Financial life skills such as budgeting and paying bills on-time provide students with the tools for successful money management. Practice the 6 P’s: Prior, Proper, Planning, Prevents, Poor, Performance!
Remember that “every penny counts” when paying for college and the return on your investment upon earning a college degree leads to lifetime value. Earning a college degree: should assist obtaining a desired occupation, may be a family expectation, should allow for more earning potential and should foster achieving the American Dream. Good luck and I look forward to partnering with you for student financial success at Southern!
