A Message From Villia:

“In 2002, I helped launch Southern Alumni Magazine, which covers the latest developments on campus and the many wonderful accomplishments of the university community.

There is so much to share with our readers. I never fail to be amazed by our students’ tremendous talent, strength, compassion and commitment. They are dedicated to making the most of their time at Southern — and to making the world a better place.

Their experiences at Southern are always enlightening. While working on articles for the magazine, I’ve canoed through marshes with students and a professor who were studying erosion; interviewed student-athletes who’ve won national championships; talked to alumni who served as Peace Corps volunteers; and shared words of wisdom from Southern graduates and professors who are highly accomplished leaders in their fields. My coworkers and I tell their stories with pleasure and pride.

My background includes experience in publishing, public relations, university development, and marketing. On a typical day, you might find me editing a commencement program, interviewing faculty for an article on collaborative research, or catching up with an alumna who graduated three decades ago but still fondly remembers the professor who changed her life.”
