Provost’s Research and Scholarship Advisory Committee

The Research and Scholarship Advisory Committee (RSAC) reports directly to the Provost and plays a major role in advancing the agenda for research, scholarship, and creative activity at Southern Connecticut State University.

To stimulate research, RSAC oversees a number of grants available to both faculty and students. These are described below, and open calls for proposals as well as the current RSAC membership are found in the Research and Scholarship Advisory Committee website.

Undergraduate Research Grants

This initiative, Undergraduate Research Grants, is funded by the SCSU Foundation. Grants of $3,000 each will be awarded to undergraduate students to complete research in any academic discipline represented on the SCSU campus. Each student awardee will be guided by a faculty mentor. Faculty mentors will receive one credit of load credit for their guidance of the proposed student research.
The purpose of these grants is to promote high quality research and creative activity at the undergraduate level by having students work closely with a faculty mentor during the semester the grant is awarded.

Conference Travel Grant for Graduate Students

Southern Connecticut State University recognizes the importance of student and faculty scholarship and creative activity in furthering its mission. The University is committed to expanding the array of supports for such scholarship and creative activity. The Conference Travel Grant for Graduate Students aims to provide graduate students with funds to help support travel to national or international conferences. (Regional conferences will not be funded by this grant.) Proposals from graduate students whose work demonstrates a high probability of producing a published manuscript (or other relevant scholarly representation aligned with their discipline) will be given priority.

Undergraduate Student Research and Creativity Conference

This conference is a celebration of scholarship and creativity in all forms, as well as a showcase for the leading minds of today's undergraduate community. As an educational institution, Southern seeks to promote interdisciplinary academic careers and both logic and creativity are key components in individual, economic, and societal success. The posters, oral presentations, art installments, and other various exhibitions highlighted in this conference demonstrate the diverse scope of subjects engaged by students from many disciplines as well as illustrating the parallels between them. The Research and Creativity Conference is a celebration of our journey to enlightenment. It aims to not only encourage continued work by the undergraduate community, but also to awaken individual curiosity and purpose.

Graduate Student Research & Creative Activity Conference

Joan Finn Junior Faculty Research Fellowship

Southern Connecticut State University recognizes the importance of faculty scholarship and creative activity in furthering its mission. The University is committed to expanding the array of supports for such scholarship and creative activity. The Joan Finn Junior Faculty Research Fellowships aim to provide junior faculty members with a significant amount of reassigned time at an early stage in their careers at Southern for these purposes. The Fellow may generate publication(s) from his/her dissertation or other previous research or conduct new research or creative activity. It is expected that the Fellow will pursue work leading to a publishable article or its scientific or creative equivalent and will make a public presentation at Southern or within the CSCU system.

Mid Level Faculty Research Fellowship

Southern Connecticut State University recognizes the importance of faculty scholarship and creative activity in furthering its mission. The University is committed to expanding the array of support for such scholarship and creative activity. The Mid-Level Faculty Research Fellowship aims to provide mid-level faculty members with a significant amount of reassigned time at this crucial stage in their careers at Southern for these purposes. The Fellow may generate publication(s) from his/her dissertation or other previous research or conduct new research or creative activity. It is expected that the Fellow will pursue work leading to a publishable article or its scientific or creative equivalent and will make a public presentation at Southern or within the CSCU system and at a national/international conference venue.

Senior Level Faculty Research Fellowship

Southern Connecticut State University recognizes the importance of faculty scholarship and creative activity in furthering its mission. The University is committed to expanding the array of support for such scholarship and creative activity. In recognition of the increased responsibilities placed on senior-level faculty members, the Senior-Level Faculty Research Fellowship was created to support and encourage research, creative activity, and scholarship among senior-level faculty members with a significant amount of reassigned time for these purposes. The Fellow may generate publication(s), performances, or exhibitions from their previous research, or they may conduct new research or creative activity or produce a major grant proposal for external support. The work must be original to the proposer, i.e. editorial work will not be considered. It is expected that the Fellow will pursue work leading to a publishable article or its scientific or creative equivalent and will make a public presentation at Southern or within the CSCU system.
