The Minor in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of the science of ABA beyond what is typically available in undergraduate programs. This 18-credit sequence provides an opportunity for students to pursue the Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA®) credential upon graduation.
The curriculum emphasizes both conceptual and theoretical foundations of ABA while incorporating applied practice. Students begin by exploring the basic principles of learning and behavior, including data collection methods, and progress to courses on behavior analytic assessment and intervention planning. Practical application of these skills is a unique component of the program, reflecting the employment expectations for BCaBA® practitioners in the state. Advanced coursework addresses ethical standards and professional responsibilities related to program implementation, supervision, and case management.
The minor consists of 230 hours of content aligned with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB®) 5th Edition Task List, ensuring that graduates meet the coursework requirements to sit for the BCaBA® examination.
Students who minor in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) gain specialized knowledge in behavior assessment, intervention strategies, and learning principles. Many go on to work with individuals with autism spectrum disorder or developmental disabilities, supporting skill development and positive behavior change. The minor also complements majors in psychology, education, social work, or speech and language sciences. While becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) requires graduate study, the ABA minor provides valuable hands-on experience and a pathway to entry-level roles in behavioral health.
