Special-Elementary Education Collaborative, B.S.

The Collaborative Special Education/Elementary Education program is a unique program to SCSU. Through the program students are prepared for certification in both Elementary Education grades 1-6 and Special Education grades K-12. This provides students with additional options when searching for jobs and more flexibility throughout their careers. Students have multiple options in the program to work in local schools through our fieldwork classes; from observations and tutoring, to teaching small groups and whole classes. The program culminates in a student teaching semester where students participate in 8 weeks of students elementary level students teaching and 8 weeks of student teaching in a special education program. Students in this program also are required to have a second major, usually interdisciplinary students (IDS) as a state requirement as well as to expand their overall subject matter knowledge for being and effective educator.
