This major is only open to Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Elementary Education-Bilingual, or Special Education-Elementary Education Collaborative majors who must complete a second major in Liberal Studies as outlined in the academic catalog. Students may discuss the option to complete an alternate second major, or different Liberal Studies concentration (i.e., two 18-credit concentrations), with their advisor.
A double major in liberal studies and Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Elementary Education–Bilingual, or Special Education prepares graduates for careers in teaching and educational support. Graduates can become licensed teachers in public or private schools, working with young learners in general, bilingual, or special education classrooms. They may also serve as instructional aides, curriculum coordinators, or early childhood program directors. The liberal studies background enhances their ability to teach across multiple subjects and adapt to diverse learning styles. This combination provides a strong foundation for meaningful careers in education and opportunities for further graduate study.
