Southern has created an environment where you can be more yourself. We’re known for challenging academics, access, and social justice. We’re also known for being a community. You will discover who you are meant to be, surrounded by a caring network of fellow students, faculty, staff and alumni who believe in SCSU’s mission and expect more than the status quo. Where you choose to attend college is one of the most important decisions you'll ever make - it's four years that can shape the rest of your life. And it's not always an easy choice, which is why we strive to make the application process as easy as possible.
Test Optional Admissions
Southern Connecticut State University is proud of our commitment to student success and social justice. We seek to serve the state of Connecticut and our region by instilling in all of our students the value of the liberal arts and sciences as a foundation for professional development and life-long learning. In that spirit, we are proud to announce that we have adopted a test-optional admission policy for new undergraduates applying for Spring 2021 and beyond.
We believe that the learning and performance in high school are far more important for college success than performance on a one-time standardized test, and there is an abundance of evidence supporting this.
Starting with undergraduate applicants for Spring 2021 and beyond, we’ll no longer require ACT or SAT scores for general admission or merit scholarships offered at the time of admission.* We’ll look at your high school GPA instead.
*Student athletes may be required to provide ACT or SAT scores to the NCAA for athletic eligibility. Nursing, Social Work and Education all require separate admission to their programs and may request standardized test scores as part of their requirements.
Fall 2021 freshman/First-Year application is open.
