The Transfer Admissions & Services team can help you navigate advising, adjust academically, and find your place.
At Southern, transferring is not unusual - it is one of the main ways students become Owls. We welcome veterans, two-year students, and students who have taken any college courses after graduating from high school or earning their GED.
Transferring to a new university is an exciting journey, and we're here to welcome you and support you every step of the way.
About the Southern Transfer Process
The transfer application is done entirely online and does not require essays, letters of recommendation, admission appointments, or admission interviews. SCSU does not offer a physical application. No matter your background or where you are transferring from, you belong here and are welcome as part of our community. All transfers will start with our online application.

Fall 2026 preferred deadlines for best course availability and selections are:
August 7, 2026: Application deadline (last day to apply)
August 14, 2026: Admission deadline (last day to be accepted)
August 14, 2026: Deposit deadline
August 21, 2026: Course registration deadline
August 25, 2026: Classes begin
My advice to an incoming transfer student would be to go out and go to any event. You can find some people that you know are going to be active on campus and in the community, and just stay connected with people through social media, through the phone. Make sure that you're making your presence known so that people can reach out to you.
