Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences! Whether you are a new or returning student, a parent, an employer, or simply someone interested in what we do, I want to extend my warmest greetings to you. In the College of Arts and Sciences we treasure the pursuit of knowledge as intrinsically valuable while we help our students to be educated citizens prepared for the careers of the 21st century. Our vision is both student-centered and outward-looking. That “outward look” provides students with abundant opportunities to learn outside the classroom as well as inside it. That means there are ample opportunities for international study, internships, and even collaborating with our remarkable faculty on research projects—starting in our First Year Experience.
Arts and Sciences programs cover the fine and performing arts, mathematics and the sciences, the humanities, the communicative arts, and the social and behavioral sciences. No surprise: Southern’s College of Arts and Sciences is the largest at the university. As the chief academic officer of the College, I am constantly delighted by the dedication and mentorship our faculty provide to our students. And why not? In the College of Arts and Sciences, students come first! If you are already a part of the Southern family, welcome to the 2019-2020 academic year. If you aren’t, please visit our beautiful campus and learn more about becoming an Owl.
