Diane E. Michaelsen

Diane E. Michaelsen, L.C.S.W., is the Director of Field Education and MSW Admissions and has been an adjunct faculty member for the Department of Social Work at SCSU since 1995. She holds an MSW from SCSU. She teaches SWK 570 Social Work Field Practicum I and SWK 571 Social Work Field Practicum II.

Ms. Michaelsen has worked for over twenty-eight years in the field of addiction treatment. She worked for nearly ten of those years at a rehabilitation hospital, where she integrated substance abuse treatment into physical rehabilitation programs for spinal cord and head injured patients. She previously worked as the Assistant Clinical Director for the General Assistance Behavioral Health Program in Connecticut, supervising a clinical team responsible for utilization management for behavioral health needs in the public sector. In that position, she also provided education for providers of behavioral health care across the state regarding patient placement criteria and trends in service delivery. Diane holds a specialty certificate in Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs from the NASW, is a certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, and a licensed alcohol and drug counselor.
