Our Purpose

Established in 1972, the SCSU Foundation's purpose is to solicit, receive, invest, and administer gifts and financial resources from private sources for the benefit of all programs at Southern. The foundation has responsibility for the election of board members who will support Southern's educational and public service programs and initiatives.

Leaders in Philanthropy

The foundation's long-range goal is to be a leader in philanthropy and to provide the ongoing support Southern needs to fulfill its mission, both on campus and in the community.

Objectives

Recruit board members who value and can help realize Southern's mission. Formulate policies to ensure that investments are well managed and financial checks and balances are in place. This is a required compliance not only with state regulations, but also with the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act. Develop and implement effective donor stewardship policies and procedures.

Monies raised help fund scholarships, faculty support services, student services, technology, faculty research, professorships, lectureships, and initiatives that promote the university's strategic plan. The vital components of our fundraising programs include:

Board of Directors

The SCSU Foundation's elected board of directors is an influential group that:

  • Assumes the fiduciary responsibilities of governing the foundation
  • Serves as advocates for SCSU fundraising
  • Enhances the university's image in the business community, philanthropic circles, government, and general public.
