Welcome to Paradise: Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management

Tourism and hospitality is a field in which a variety of disciplines are studied and brought together to create a solid understanding of the service industry. A part of a global market that changes regularly, it is important to be aware of travel trends and the impact that a small change can make within the entire industry. This module focuses on concentrations that are currently in demand, creating a specialized niche for those wanting to further their career in the service industry. 

Smooth Operator: Event Management

Meetings, community, music and film festivals, fundraisers, trade shows, conferences…whether it’s a spectacular celebration or a government entity, coordinating the multiple moving parts of any event requires thorough research, planning, promotion and seamless coordination. This module prepares you to design, plan, and execute successful events.

Eat, Drink & Be Merry: Food & Beverage Operations

You’ll learn key concepts, strategies, and practical skills necessary for managing, owning, and operating a successful restaurant, bar, or other food and beverage business. Develop confidence in your ability to manage your business’s finances and learn key operation functions like menu design, income statement analysis, pricing, margin analysis, supply chain management, guest service processes, and employee engagement and performance.

Sweet Dreams are Made of This: Lodging Operations

Learn the primary divisions of hotels (e.g. front office procedures, housekeeping, banquets, sales and marketing, revenue management). Students will gain interested careers in lodging operations including hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, resorts, Air BnB, or others.

Get the Party Started: Entertainment Management

Immerse yourself in the entertainment industry and explore a range of career paths it offers. Students learn about leadership in sport, athletics, and entertainment industries including gaming. We’ll take a closer look at policies and issues related to management of entertainment facilities and events conducted within them. Topics include patron flow and security, revenue opportunity features, planning staffing and risk considerations.
