We welcome prospective transfer students with college level credit earned after graduating high school or obtaining their GED. Our vibrant transfer population makes up 50% of our student body. The Transfer Admissions and Services team is here to support your transfer to SCSU with pre-transfer advising appointments, information sessions and dedicated support and guidance throughout the admission process and on-boarding transition to becoming a Southern owl.

Southern Connecticut State University admits students of any age, race, color, sex, sexual orientation, citizenship, national or ethnic origin, or non-disqualifying handicap to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activity generally accorded or made available to students at the University.

Important Dates for Fall 2023 Enrollment

Fall 2023 preferred deadlines for best course availability and selections are:

  • Notification of Admission Decisions for Fall 2023 begin January 23, 2023
  • Application deadline:  August 4, 2023
  • Admission deadline:  August 11, 2023
  • Course registration deadline:  August 28, 2023
  • Classes begin:  August 29, 2023
Application Process
  • Submit the online transfer application.
  • Submit the non-refundable $50 application fee or fee waiver documentation for review.
  • Submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities.
  • Submit final official high school transcript noting graduation date or an official college transcript confirming awarded college degree.

International students may need to submit additional documents. Please refer to the Admission: International Students section of the SCSU Undergraduate Catalog.

Admission Requirements

Admission is to the university and not program specific. Certain programs require a supplemental application after admission to the university. Please refer to the individual program department website for details.

Admission is based on a holistic review of all prior college level coursework. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is recommended with a focus on most recent coursework. Special consideration is made for Connecticut Community College students who successfully completed an Associate Degree.

Alternate Study Credits are not required for admission however will be requested at the time of acceptance for transfer credit review.

    Former Southern Connecticut State University Students

    If you attended Southern as a matriculated student, left the university in good standing, and completed fewer than 12 credits at another institution during your leave you must submit a readmission form found at the One Stop Registration page.

    For previous Southern students who left the university with a GPA lower than a 2.0 at Southern, please see these options.

    Awarding Transfer Credit

    Southern Connecticut State University accepts transfer credit earned from courses taken at regionally accredited institutions and recognizes learning experiences outside the traditional college classroom may be equivalent to those that occur in the classroom in terms of meeting the objectives of established courses and programs. Acceptance of transfer and alternative credit varies depending upon specific degree requirements and relevant departmental, School or College, and/or external accrediting agency standards.

    Degree Works Evaluation for Admitted Students

    Video Tutorial: How to Access and Use the Degree Evaluation Tool

    Admitted Students will receive an email once their initial transfer credit evaluation* is completed. At that point, students can use Degree Works to review their plan of study.

    You will need to set up your SCSU student portal (MySCSU) in order to utilize Degree Works.

     

    *Admission is to the university. Your initial transfer credit evaluation reviews your prior coursework and is subject to change. Your evaluation is also being reviewed by the Department Chair of your intended major. You may receive additional course credit instead of electives after their secondary evaluation.

    Admitted Transfer Students

    Upon acceptance, students are notified in the admission portal.

    Financial aid packages are awarded after a student’s acceptance. Please refer to the financial aid website for the most up to date information.
