We welcome prospective transfer students with college level credit earned after graduating high school or obtaining their GED. Our vibrant transfer population makes up 50% of our student body. International students may need to submit additional documents. Please refer to the Admission: International Students section of the SCSU Undergraduate Catalog.
Admission is to the university and not program specific. Certain programs require a supplemental application after admission to the university. Please refer to the individual program department website for details.
Admission is based on a holistic review of all prior college level coursework. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is recommended with a focus on most recent coursework. Special consideration is made for Connecticut Community College students who successfully completed an Associate Degree.
Alternate Study Credits are not required for admission however will be requested at the time of acceptance for transfer credit review.
If you attended Southern as a matriculated student, left the university in good standing, and completed fewer than 12 credits at another institution during your leave you must submit a readmission form found at the One Stop Registration page.

Southern Connecticut State University accepts transfer credit earned from courses taken at regionally accredited institutions and recognizes learning experiences outside the traditional college classroom may be equivalent to those that occur in the classroom in terms of meeting the objectives of established courses and programs. Acceptance of transfer and alternative credit varies depending upon specific degree requirements and relevant departmental, School or College, and/or external accrediting agency standards.

Video Tutorial: How to Access and Use the Degree Evaluation Tool
Admitted Students will receive an email once their initial transfer credit evaluation* is completed. At that point, students can use Degree Works to review their plan of study.
You will need to set up your SCSU student portal (MySCSU) in order to utilize Degree Works.
*Admission is to the university. Your initial transfer credit evaluation reviews your prior coursework and is subject to change. Your evaluation is also being reviewed by the Department Chair of your intended major. You may receive additional course credit instead of electives after their secondary evaluation.
Upon acceptance, students are notified in the admission portal.
