Admission is to the university and is not directly to any specific program. Certain programs require a supplemental application after admission to the university. Please refer to the individual program department website for details. After acceptance, an academic advisor will assist you with officially declaring your major/minor.
Admission is based on a holistic review of all prior college-level coursework. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 is recommended with a focus on most recent coursework, though a 2.00 or higher is allowed if the applicant has previously completed an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
If an applicant does not have a prior degree and falls between a 2.00-2.49, we will more closely review their most recent academic performance. Except for Veterans, we cannot accept an applicant with a cumulative GPA of 1.99 or lower.
Alternate Study Credits are not required for admission however will be requested at the time of acceptance for transfer credit review.
The transfer application is done entirely online and does not require essays, letters of recommendation, admission appointments, or any sort of admission interview. SCSU does not offer a physical application.
The steps to complete the transfer application are:
To expedite receipt, please send electronic transcripts to admissions@southernct.edu. We are unable to accept student copies. All transcripts must be sent directly from your previous institution(s) to be considered official, including final high school transcripts.
All international transcripts must be evaluated by an evaluation company accredited by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). For a list of these evaluation companies, visit the NACES website.
We encourage international applicants to visit Admissions for International Students for additional requirements and assistance.
Please refer to the Admission: International Students section of the SCSU Undergraduate Catalog for more in-depth information.

If you applied as a full-time student, a $200 deposit is required; if you applied as a part time, no deposit is necessary.
Around this time, accepted students are also sent an initial transfer credit evaluation**, based on their official transcripts, to show which credits are currently accepted. This will include steps to setting up their SCSU student portal (MySCSU) where Degree Works can be used to review plans of study. View the Video Tutorial on How to Access and Use the Degree Evaluation Tool
Credits that have not previously been transferred to SCSU from other institutions will be submitted to program coordinators for review at this time.

The Next Steps link in your ‘Welcome’ email provides information on how to schedule an appointment for advisement and registration, apply for housing, sign up for the TRANSFERmation orientation, and more!
