Music Scholarships

The Music Department is pleased to offer several distinct scholarships for students pursuing a degree in music.

Stutzman Family Foundation Music Scholarship(s)

Students applying for the bachelor's degree in music at Southern will be considered for a Stutzman Family Foundation Scholarship on the basis of their musical audition and review of their application materials. Award amounts vary and are awarded each semester (up to an aggregate total of eight semesters), provided the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criterion.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Declared Music Major
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Enrolled in a department-based music ensemble every semester
  • Enrolled in a department-based applied lesson (primary instrument) every semester

Application Process

Students who wish to be considered for a Stutzman Family Foundation music scholarship must:

  • Complete an online application
  • Complete an audition and/or interview
  • Successfully apply and gain acceptance into Southern Connecticut State University (New/Transfer students)

Scholarship applications should be submitted by Thursday, February 1, 2024, for best consideration. Applications submitted after that time will be considered based upon available funding. Upon receipt of your application, you will be scheduled for an audition and notified via email. All scholarship applicants will be notified of their scholarship status by Friday, April 12, 2024.

Bellmore Family Annual Scholarship

Established by Mr. Roger Bellmore, a graduate of Southern and an avid musician, the Bellmore Family Scholarship is available to assist music majors as they prepare themselves for careers in the arts. Students can apply by February 15 of each year at the SCSU Foundation Scholarships Portal.


Jack and Anne Litten Memorial Scholarship

The Jack and Anne Litten Memorial Scholarship Fund was first established in 1995 by Jack Litten in honor of his late wife, Anne. Dr. Litten passed away in 1999 and the scholarship was renamed to honor them both for their lifelong dedication to children, teaching, music and the arts. Students can apply by February 15 of each year at the SCSU Foundation Scholarships Portal.


Christiane M. Fenniger Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students majoring in music or theatre, renewable yearly. Students can apply by February 15 of each year at the SCSU Foundation Scholarships Portal.


Edward and Jean Mack Art and Music Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Edward and Jean Mack Art & Music Endowed Scholarship was established in 2000 to assist Southern students who are majoring in either music or art. Students can apply by February 15 of each year at the SCSU Foundation Scholarships Portal.


Peter & Barbara Cairney Endowed Arts Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students actively pursuing their undergraduate degree in theatre, music, or art, and involved with the major's curricular and co-curricular areas. Students can apply by February 15 of each year at the SCSU Foundation Scholarships Portal.


Music Department Annual Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is available to students majoring in music, awarded yearly. Students can apply by February 15 of each year at the SCSU Foundation Scholarships Portal.
