The Integrated Communications & Marketing team provides a range of services to Southern's faculty and staff, with a focus on creating and maintaining a unified look, feel, and voice across modes of communication while promoting the university's mission and core values in all that we produce.
Do you have a news story you would like to share with the campus community and/or the general public? Integrated Communications & Marketing is always looking for story ideas and tips. What are we looking for?
- Faculty or student research
- Human interest stories
- New programs
- Upcoming events
- Special projects
In most cases, story ideas with broad appeal or relevance to people’s lives are more likely to attract media attention.
If you have a story idea, send a brief description, along with your contact information, to Joe Musante, media relations, at email@example.com, or call him at (203) 392-5073.
For story ideas pertaining to the arts and humanities, contact Betsy Beacom at firstname.lastname@example.org or (203) 392-6589.
Integrated Communications & Marketing offers graphic design services to manage the development and design of a variety of print and web-based marketing materials from conceptualization to delivery. Please note that lead times vary for different projects. We will work with you to develop a production schedule for each project.
To initiate a graphic design job request, please contact Mary Pat Caputo, director of marketing and publications, at (203) 392-6598 or CaputoM3@SouthernCT.edu.
Integrated Communications & Marketing creates and produces promotional material for print and digital media. We provide consultation on brand application guidelines and standards, as well as tools, resources, and branded templates. In addition, we coordinate the writing, development and placement of university advertising and related marketing initiatives, helping to develop unique themes that communicate Southern's mission and programs to the general public.
We are available for web and social media training and assistance with design, document preparation, and copywriting/editing within the scope of the Southern brand initiative. Our services include graphic design, photography, videography, writing, and editing.
For information, or to request marketing services, contact Mary Pat Caputo, director of marketing and publications, at (203) 392-6598 or CaputoM3@SouthernCT.edu.
The university photographer provides images for all aspects of marketing on behalf of the university, and documents everyday life on the campus, as well as newsworthy events, and takes environmental portraits and head shots of faculty, staff, and students as needed for university purposes.
Photography services are only available upon written request and depend upon the availability of the photographer. There may be a charge to a university department for enlargements, digital files, and services.
To request photo services, please fill out the online request form three weeks before the event, or if three weeks' notice cannot be given, as early as possible before the event. Requests submitted the day before or the day of the event may be honored only at the discretion of ICM.
The Office of Integrated Communications & Marketing honors video requests on a case-by-case basis. The primary goal of video services is to create short, timely videos reporting on special events, research developments, student recruitment, expert commentary, and timely feature stories that can be used to support university-wide priorities.
The university's videographer will assist with video planning, production, and post-production services. This office is unable to fulfill requests to record class lectures or presentations, videotape meetings, or reoccurring events.
Due to the large volume of video requests that are received in this office, priority is reserved for videos that:
- Enhance the university's admissions or development goals (rather than the mission of a specific center or office). If your video idea relates to achievements or events within a specific department, we will consider ways to present it as part of a larger picture.
- Address university-wide topics (e.g., learning at Southern, rather than learning any one specific discipline)
- Are targeted to large audience groups (e.g., prospective students, rather than members of the class of 2019)
When at all possible, please allow for a minimum of six weeks to fulfill your request, as multiple video projects occur on a regular basis.
Please complete and submit the video request form and a member of the video services team will follow up to set up a consultation meeting.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to limited staffing and an overwhelming number of video requests, not all requests can be fulfilled.

We maintain a database of images, including stock images for media and publications, event photos, and portraits. These images will be made available to other university departments and outside media agencies as needed. A fee may apply. Please email the university photographer, Isabel Chenoweth, for information about accessing images in the database.

If you are a member of the campus community preparing for an interview with the media, or you just have general questions about the process, Integrated Communications & Marketing can help.
We understand that being interviewed on TV or radio, or even talking with a newspaper reporter, can be stressful – especially for those who have little or no experience in dealing with the media. We can offer suggestions, or in some cases provide a simulated interview, to better prepare you.
Contact Joe Musante for assistance or questions about the media. He can be reached at email@example.com, or at (203) 392-5073.
