This page contains guidance and tips on three modes of disseminating your work at the Undergraduate Research and Creativity conference: oral presentations, roundtable discussions, and poster presentations. Further help is available from the “Department and Office Resources” tab below.
Abstract Requirements
- Maximum 250 words
- Clearly state the purpose, methods/approach, results or outcomes, and significance/impact of your work
- Include title, author(s), program/department, and faculty mentor (if applicable)
Submission Format
Submit your proposal online using the Proposal Submissions Form.
This form will ask you to indicate your:
- Presentation title
- Additional author name(s) and major. Be sure to include any authors, students or faculty other than yourself.
- Faculty mentor and their SCSU email address. Your faculty mentor is the individual who’s supervising the work that you’re submitting to present at the conference. Be sure to enter their name and email address carefully as they will be required to approve your submission before it can be included in the conference program.
- Abstract (250-word limit)
- Preferred presentation category (see below)
Presentation Categories
Students may submit in any one of the following categories:
- Oral Presentation
This type of presentation requires one presentation, 10-12 minutes in length, where you summarize the results of your research, creative activity, or applied practice and are supported by a digital slideshow. Oral presentations are grouped by area or, at times, be from a variety of backgrounds. Expect a Q&A to follow your presentation and each oral presentation within your session. Audience members may come and go throughout your session. - Poster Presentation
This type of presentation is a posterboard or visual display of research, project findings, or creative scholarship. Poster sessions often last for 1-2 hours during which students present the results of their poster to a variety of audience members as they move throughout the ballroom. This type of presentation often requires you repeat the contents of your presentation numerous times as audience members will come and go throughout the presentation period. - Organized Panel*
An Organized Panel consisting of 3 - 5 Oral Presentations, or a Roundtable discussion, with 4-6 participants, focused around a central theme. Proposals should include a title for the Organized Panel, as well as titles for each individual presentation and the name of a faculty member who will serve as the session Moderator. Roundtables, which focus on discussion among the participants, may or may not have individual titles at the discretion of the organizers.
Eligibility
- Open to all SCSU students
- Individual or group submissions are welcome
- Projects may be completed or in progress (all stages of completion are allowed)
Review Criteria
