Transfer Student Advising and Course Registration

New transfer student advising appointments will cover the following:

  • Discuss how credits transferred and what requirements remain
  • Review a pathway toward graduation
  • Learn about important University resources
  • Registration for first semester classes

All new transfer students are required to schedule an advising appointment where they will receive a registration PIN.

Once transfer students pay their admission deposit or confirm their enrollment, they will receive a link to the "Spring 2024 Transfer Student -- Next Steps". The appointment system is available via Next Steps.

Transfer students are encouraged to schedule an advising appointment as soon as possible to take advantage of priority course registration and course availability. Transfer students who wait until August to act will have less appointment and course availability.

Spring 2024 priority course registration opens on October 20th and is based on class standing.  You can check registration dates and times on the Registration website.

If you have questions or encounter any problems in trying to schedule your transfer advising appointment, please contact us at transferbookings@southernct.edu.

TRANSFERmation (Transfer Student Orientation)

Starting at a new institution can be challenging which is why Southern provides several ways to support the transition of transfer students in their first semester.

In addition to a comprehensive advising meeting, transfer students are next invited to attend TRANSFERmation. These in-person and virtual programs are specific to the needs of transfer students.

Program Goals

  • Begin to make social connections with their peers.
  • Learn how to prepare for the first semester.
  • Meet Orientation Ambassadors and Transfer Student Assistants.

Additional Information about TRANSFERmation

  • An electronic device (laptop, tablet if possible). We will have a limited number to loan students for the day.
  • Comfortable dress and walking shoes.
  • All meals and snacks will be provided at no cost

  • Virtual sessions will be on Zoom. The link will be provided via the confirmation email.
  • This will be a much more condensed program that is intentionally designed to pair with the Digital Orientation (online orientation) platform.

All transfer students are enrolled in Digital TRANSFERmation which can be accessed via Blackboard (MySCSU > Blackboard > Organizations > Digital Orientation). This asynchronous platform is specifically designed to complement the virtual and in-person programs. Through Digital TRANSFERmation, students can learn more about the resources and opportunities available to students. Transfer students will be enrolled in segments once they have registered for courses. Please contact Orientation, Transition and Family Engagement if you have yet to be added.

A Transfer Student Assistant (TSA) is an experienced upper-division student committed to supporting new transfer students throughout their first semester. TSAs will provide support throughout the first semester at Southern.

Orientation, Transition and Family Engagement offers new students an opportunity to see campus from an experienced student’s perspective. Much more than a campus tour, these forty-five minute campus overviews are individualized and are by appointment only. Birdseye Views will be scheduled via SSC Navigate.
