Drone Academy

The Drone Academy is a five-module, non-credit program geared towards enthusiastic hobbyists and working professionals who are interested in gaining the knowledge and skills needed for drone operation, aerial photography and videography, FAA certification exam preparation, and computational photography and 3D mapping. 

Each module can be completed as a stand-alone option, and participants can customize the program depending on their specific areas of interest. Participants who complete all five modules will gain a strong understanding of safe drone aviation, will be prepared to successfully pass the FAA exam, will learn the best practices for making quality aerial stills and videos using Photoshop and Final Cut Pro, and learn how to use Px4d software for landscape mapping and 3D modeling.

School Library Media Specialist, Graduate Certificate - Cross Endorsement 
A 30-credit graduate-level certificate that prepares currently certified Connecticut teachers for cross endorsement as school library media specialists.  School library media specialists manage libraries, as well as technology and media integration in their schools. The teacher certification may be combined with dual enrollment in the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program, with the completion of the additional requirements. 

School Library Media Specialist, Graduate Certificate - Initial Certification 
A 30-credit graduate level certificate that offers the opportunity to gain certification as a K-12 teacher in Connecticut. This program welcomes both mid-career professionals seeking a career change and recent graduates with an interest in teaching and school libraries.  As the only program of its kind in Connecticut, with nationally recognized faculty and a statewide network of professional support, we welcome inquiries and interest from potential students with all types of undergraduate degrees and professional backgrounds.

The introductory training seminar in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery is a 5-day, 45-hour intensive with additional assignments before and/or after the seminar. This immersion in the Bonny Method offers experienced therapists an entryway into training in this method. It provides advanced students in music therapy and mental health professions with an experiential taste of the power of music as an agent of change. Also included is training in relaxation inductions and supportive music and imagery. A minimum of one personal GIM session with a trained facilitator and a complete music program is a prerequisite to this training; additional sessions are recommended.

Through lectures, demonstrations, and supervised experiences as a guide and traveler, this introductory level training will prepare participants to demonstrate emerging skills in:

  • Facilitating relaxation inductions (CBMT Domain II.A.2.bd, II.A.5.j)

  • Basic guiding interventions (CBMT Domain II.A.1.d)

  • Basic verbal and nonverbal processing techniques (CBMT Domain II.A.1.b, II.A.5.

This course will address the following AMTA Advanced Competencies:

  • I.A.1.2 Differentiate the theoretical orientations of The Bonny Method from theories of other music therapy approaches

  • I.B.4.3 Understand the contraindications of music therapy

  • II.B.8.1 Utilize self-awareness and insight to deepen the client’s process in music therapy.

  • II.B.8.2 Identify one’s personal issues as may be relevant to the music therapy process.  

  • II.B.8 3 Use personal reflection

  • II.B.8.4 Practice strategies for self-care

Following completion of the Level I training, the therapist may facilitate relaxation experiences or simple and structured music and imagery techniques (not GIM) with peers or with those groups or individuals in a clinical setting where the therapist has experience and for whom such intervention is indicated. Satisfactory training completion will meet the GIM Level II training prerequisite. It may be used toward completing the requirements for becoming a Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery.

This training is affiliated with Appalachian GIM Institute, LLC, endorsed by the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI).

Spanish and Latino Cultures for Health Professionals 
The certificate in Spanish and Latino Cultures for Health Professionals is a 12-credit sequence of courses designed to prepare future professionals to serve Spanish-speaking clients in a healthcare setting by developing functional and technical Spanish language skills and cultural awareness about US Latinos. Students may earn 3 waiver credits by proving an intermediate-low proficiency level on STAMP test and 6 waiver credits by proving an intermediate-mid proficiency level on STAMP test. An exit exam proving an intermediate-high level proficiency is required to earn the certificate. 

Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary program of study consisting of courses taught in various departments throughout SCSU. A course identified as Women's Studies focuses on the study of gender roles, the social construction of gender, women's issues, achievements, and/or women's place in societies both past and present.
